This is with reference to the article ‘Teening with crime’, (PM, July 12). The fact that two girls and two boys, all 17 year olds, stole gold ornaments from one of the girls’ home is annoying. Where are today’s youth heading? Juvenile crime is on the rise and we need to address the issue immediately.
The lure of visiting pubs and hookah parlours is spoiling our kids. Their unacceptable behaviour emanates from the example put forth by elders. We must keep in mind that our kids see us and often follow in our footsteps. Therefore let us correct ourselves first.

Shameless act
It was shocking and disgusting to know that a mob of 11 men molested and striped a helpless teenage girl in Guwahati. The trauma of the victim is beyond imagination. Such shameless incidents show that there is no law and order in Guwahati.
It took four days for the police to arrest the culprits. How long they will take to punish the guilty and set an example? Will the lawmakers come up with strict laws to protect women? Assam’s DGP has said that the police can’t be present everywhere. I would like to ask the DGP whether we are living in a jungle? Have the criminals stopped fearing police there?

A humble soul
This refers to ‘The end of a powerful era’, (PM, July 13). The best part of Dara Singh’s nature was that he was shy and humble. He always shunned publicity, particularly while helping the needy. Such people are rare in the glamour world. He became immortal in his role as Hanuman in Ramanand Sagar's TV serial Ramayana. But his fine roles in films like Rustam-Sohrab, Hercules, Thief of Baghdad, Lootera were also memorable.

Rudderless Congress
Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid’s statement on the directionless functioning of the Congress and Rahul Gandhi’s unwillingness to move beyond trailer shows was a well deliberated view. Even though Khurshid has backtracked, the people are not ready to buy any other interpretations from what he really meant.
There is a poverty of thought process among the present leadership. It appears that there is an element of fear among senior congressmen lest they should say anything which is unsavoury to the power centre.
