Hite-Bar

• Ashwini Palace, Shop No 2, Wanowrie
• Lalwani Vastu, Sakore Nagar, Viman Nagar, Pune
In 1982, Mohammad Sabooni was first introduced to family recipes of shawarma and burgers by his brother-in-law. Thirty years down the line, Sabooni is still known for the delectable variations of these items at all the branches of his well-known little enterprise.
“My brother-in-law hails from Iran. He brought down the recipe of shawarma for me and after that, it was all about experimenting in the kitchen,” says Sabooni.
Having served Puneites for nearly 30 years now, Hite Bar has a huge loyal clientele that flocks there to date. “The Camp outlet is the oldest. I started the other two encouraged by the response I received there.”
Setting
A brightly-lit board warmly beckons foodies in. All branches have an indoor and outdoor seating arrangement. Sabooni believes the ambience adds to the appetite.
Tables are clean and well-kept and waiters make sure they clean up as soon as the customer walks away. “We follow the self service method, but the staff is happy to help throughout,” smiles Sabooni. Interiors at all three outlets are simple with neutral colours.
What to chow
“All the recipes are carried out by chefs specially appointed by me. All the ingredients are prepared here itself and only the bread is bought from outside,” says Sabooni.
Special recommendations here include the Chicken Hotdog, Chicken Salami Roll, and the Special Egg and Cheese Chicken Burger/Roll. The Shawarma wins hands down, for its ‘just right’ mix of ingredients and taste.
While it is already famous for its Shawarma, Hite Bar is slowly gaining popularity for its Falafel as well, made fresh every morning and evening.
They also serve Chicken Tikka, Mutton Roll and vegetarians items like Paneer Roll and Veg Burger. “While burgers and shawarmas are our fastest selling products, other recent experiments like the Cheese Chicken Kathi Roll and Kheema are doing great too,” says the owner.
Shell out
Someone with a normal appetite can walk out fully satisfied and happy within a paltry Rs 150. With over 20 varieties to choose from between the range of Rs 40 to Rs 80, Hite Bar is the perfect fit for students and the working crowd in Viman Nagar and Wanowrie.
All chicken varieties are priced at Rs 60 (cheese and egg at Rs 80), while mutton rolls are for Rs 70 and veggie options for Rs 40-50.
Verdict
This place if famous for its delectable Chicken Burgers and Shawarma Rolls, with good reason. It’s a great joint not only for non-vegetarians but also offers vegetarian options, a perfect balance for Shravan and Ramazan.
Sabooni personally supervises every order and takes pride in maintaining reasonable and affordable prices on the menu. We’re certainly not complaining!
