A wing-wing situation

  Terttulia

There’s something about Terttulia that just lures you in — possibly the chill vibe, the gentle music in the background or the glass of cool, mint-flavoured water that greets you. After ordering my regular Long Island Iced Tea (must-have if you’re a fan), I decided to get some curly fries and Buffalo Chicken Wings with Blue Cheese Dip on my table.

The wings turned out to be just fantastic. The chicken was achingly tender, the kind you can effortlessly sink your teeth into. It wasn’t exactly ‘immersed’ in sauce the way I like it, but good enough! The sauce was a mixture of barbeque sauce and ketchup with a tinge of sweetness because of a honey coating.

The dip was so delicious that I finished off every single drop. A blend of cheese, vinegar and bell-peppers, its creamy, savoury flavour complemented the tangy wings beautifully.

Location: South Main Road, Koregaon Park
Price: Rs 285 (8 wings)

  Polka Dots

A popular hangout in Aundh, Polka Dots dishes out a plethora of scrumptious food, so be sure to find it pretty crowded every evening. There are three things here I absolutely swear by: the Iced Tea pitcher, the delicate Tiramisu and the delicious Buffalo Chicken Wings.

Tossed in a spicy barbeque sauce and served with a lovely creamy cheese dip, the wings here are little bits of culinary perfection. The sauce is liberally poured over the wings — so much so that the two items no longer feel like different components of the dish and are one divine combination. Again, the bowl of dip was licked clean as a testament to it’s deliciousness.

Location: Parihar Chowk, Aundh
Price: Rs 145 (8 wings)

  Mad House Grill

Set in a very cosy, peaceful decor, this is the only place that offers BBQ Chicken Wings in an Oriental style — a refreshing surprise! A mouth-watering, typical ‘Oriental’ aroma emanated from the dish and I couldn’t wait to dig into it.

The wings were soaked in a yummy dark brown soy sauce, the sourness of which was pretty strong, but in a good way. The chicken was cooked perfectly — neither too soft, nor too rubbery. Overall, a pleasant start to the meal that followed, which was obviously their divine Special Mix Grill that consists of grilled beef, lamb and chicken — meat in all its glory!

Location: Lane 6, North Main Road, Koregaon Park
Price: Rs 225 (6 wings)

  By The Way

With a snug, dimly-lit ambience, this is the perfect place to impress your date or catch up with a close friend. The Chicken Wings here are delectable, dripping with barbeque sauce.

They are shallow-fried and generously coated with a sauce that is a nice blend of sweet and tangy thanks to the perfect combination of chilly pepper, vinegar, butter and a hint of wine.

The quantity makes for an impeccable starter — it doesn’t make you too full but is enough if you’re looking for a quick, appetising bite. Also try their Nachos Mexicana — bright yellow cheese melting into jalapeño peppers and chopped tomatoes — simply sinful.

Location: FC Road
Price: Rs 230 (6 wings)

  The Hidden Place

Head to this fun, spunky place to indulge in a booze binge after a particularly hectic week. The Buffalo Chicken Wings here are ‘need to’ order items once you’re done checking out the lively crowd, gushing over whacky coasters and downing a couple of beers.

Another awesome bar snack are their Prawn Pakodas fried to a tempting golden-brown. I found the tasty wings here completely different from the other places I visited.

Drenched in a unique sauce prepared by blending garlic sauce, some rather innovative capsico sauce, chilly flakes, salt and pepper, the wings ended up being a wonderful combination of fiery hot, spicy and delightfully crispy — enough to set your taste-buds tingling — and priced fabulously as well!

Location:  North Main Road, Koregaon Park
Price: Rs 135 (7 wings)
