ROUTE they took
Karajgaon via Tamhini Ghat
Murud for the beach and temple
Keshavraj, near Anjarle
Kadyavarcha Ganpati temple
Kelashi Mahabaleshwar
Finally, return to Pune
Karajgaon, near Dapoli, is a beautiful Konkan coast with a difference. The first thing you notice as soon as you land on this beach is its red sand — it’s the only beach in the Konkan with sand that colour.

It took us four hours to get to Karajgaon. We set off at 7 am in our car (it was hard to wake up in the morning !) and took the Tahmini Ghat route. Getting there, we foudn all the hotels were sea-facing. I could just imagine the next couple of days, waking up to the sound of the waves and opening my eyes and looking at a sheer blue sea and sky.

The harbour close by is called Harane Bandar and has a huge fish market. We spent our first evening just buying fish before an obligatory stroll along the seashore.

We wanted to experience more of the Konkan, so the plan was to head to Murud. Like most seaside towns in the area, part of the local sightseeing is a visit to the town temple. So, we headed to Murud Devi temple, near the beach.

Keshavraj, near Anjarle was our next destination. And the yes, we head to the beach and then the temple. This one left an impact and more because of the road we have to take to get there.

Lined with trees, and occassionally including little bridges — straight out of a picture! Adding to the perfectness of the experience, the climb up to the temple wasn’t tiring either. Kadyavarcha Ganpati temple and Kelashi were our last stops before we head to our favourite any-time-drive location — Mahabaleshwar.

I find the weather in Mahabaleshwar in the monsoon always so pleasant that one can take a day off randomly without any planning for a sure shot ‘cool’ day. And this ‘random’ halt included a visit to Mapro Garden to eat our favourite sandwiches and strawberries with cream.

It’s always tough when it’s time to go home after a getawayweekend. However, you have to head home in order to visit again.

And that’s what we promised each other on our way back to our home-office-home routine-driven monotonous days. Almost a week later, and I’m still dreaming of that perfect morning view of sea from my room.
