Chatuhshrungi police arrested a 20-year-old youth on Wednesday for allegedly robbing a 13-year-old minor boy of Rs 1,000 and a mobile phone.
The suspect has been identified as Ganesh Yallapa Alkunte of Kalewadi. He also had an accomplice with him, who remains unidentified. The incident took place at 5.30 pm on Monday, when the victim Kailas Pawar of Wadarwadi was returning home. The suspect cornered Pawar near a local wine shop in Janawadi and demanded that he hand over all his money.
However, when the victim refused to do so, Alkunte and an unknown friend with him allegedly beat up Pawar, and then divested him of his cash and mobile phone.
The 13-year-old victim was in a state of shock due to the incident and neglected to inform his parents of the assault. However, when his father questioned him about the missing mobile phone, he finally admitted what had happened and they lodged a complaint.
Chatuhshrungi police have registered a case against the suspect under Section 392 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Assistant police inspector M N Joshi confirmed that the case is being further investigated.
