Six-yr-old falls into well on school premises, dies

It was Sahil’s first day at a new Chinchwad school, where he had to answer nature’s call outside as school had no loo

The first day of school took a tragic turn tragic for six-year-old Sahil Babu Pisal and his family. The boy who resides at Ram Nagar in Chinchwad accidentally fell into a well located in his school’s campus on Monday afternoon. Sahil was a Class I student of Nimbarkar Primary School located in Mohan Nagar, Chinchwad that is run by the Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule Society.

According to the Chinchwad police, Sahil was a Junior and Senior KG student of Ayush English Medium School before his parents admitted him to Nimbarkar School in June. He had come to school in his new school uniform on his first day.

Around 1 pm, taking advantage of his class teacher’s divided attention, he slipped out of class and went straight to the school’s backyard to answer nature’s call. As he went into the bushes, he fell into a thirty-foot well as it had no protective fencing.

A local youth saw Sahil falling into the well and tried to rescue him but failed in his attempt. He then immediately informed the school authorities about the incident. A team from the Chinchwad Fire Station rushed to the spot and fished Sahil’s body out after an hour.

Ayush Nimbarkar, president of the Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule Society said that the child had gone to answer nature’s call as there was no facility for a toilet on the school premises. Meanwhile, residents of the neighbourhood alleged negligence on the part of the school management in not constructing a fence around the well which could have saved the boy’s life.

Sahil was the only son of his parents and has two elder sisters. His father is a driver by profession.
