The Hinjewadi police, on Friday, are likely to register a criminal case against the husband of teenaged victim Nisha (name changed) who was rescued by a brother-sister duo residing in Dehu Road and later handed her over to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) officials on Thursday.
The 14-year-old victim of alleged domestic violence was sent to the Sassoon General Hospital after being informed by the CWC on Friday. The CWC has as asked the Hinjewadi police to get Nisha medically examined and also to investigate the girl’s allegations of atrocities committed by her husband.
Mirror has reliably learnt that Nisha underwent a few medical tests at Sassoon and will return for the remaining vital tests which are planned for Friday. The CWC handed over the investigations to the Hinjewadi police who have the jurisdiction over the area in which in-laws of the victim reside.
According to reports, a medico-legal case has been registered with Sassoon. However, the Hinjewadi police have said that the statement of the victim is yet to be recorded and will be done only after the formality of the medical tests are over.
Anita Wipat, member of CWC informed, “Police had taken the girl to the Sassoon hospital where all the primary check-ups were carried out including one to ascertain the cause of the blunt wounds which were seen on her body.
There are some tests remaining like gynaecological and one to ascertain whether she is indeed a minor. All these tests are scheduled for Friday.”
According to an officer from the Hinjewadi police station, who refused to be identified, “We have not received any missing complaint from the relatives of the victim. Before initiating any action against any individual, we need to record the victim’s statement.
The statement of the girl and the confirmation of her age will determine whether any offence can be registered. We have to wait till her age is confirmed by the Sassoon Hospital because the sections of the Indian Penal Code to be applied are different if the girl is proven to be a minor.”
“In case the victim is minor, her husband is likely to be booked for committing rape as well for marrying an underage girl. We are not sure but her brother could also face action,” claimed the officer.
