The court of Additional Sessions Judge S D Darne on Wednesday sentenced a 23-year-old jilted lover to five years of rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping and brutally assaulting a 19-year-old girl in May 2011.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on Vinayak Vilas Mirajkar, a resident of Camp. The victim's father had lodged a complaint against Mirajkar.
Mirjakar had stabbed the girl, a resident of Kondhwa, 13 times in her chest, stomach and legs.
According to Assistant Public Prosecutor Sanjay Pawar, Mirajakar worked as an office boy in a private company and had a criminal past. Three cases of rioting and molestation were registered against him. In 2010 the girl had also lodged a complaint against Mirajkar for allegedly threatening her.
Mirajkar and the girl were known to each other for the last couple of years before the incident. He wanted to marry the girl but her family was against their relationship. On May 28, 2011, Mirajkar had taken to Satara road where the incident took place.
