The wife of a jawan of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) allegedly deserted her newborn baby girl on Sunday morning. Hadapsar police station received a call regarding the abandoned child and rushed to the spot.

The baby was found under the porch of a building adjacent to the woman’s house in SRPF colony premises in Hadapsar. Senior police inspector Raghunath Jadhav told Mirror that police have started legal proceedings against the woman, identified as Vaishali Jadhav, of SRPF’s Surakshanagar area.

Vaishali’s husband is an SRPF jawan posted in Naxal-affected Gadchiroli district. The woman delivered the baby at home and deserted her immediately, Jadhav said. According to Hadapsar police station, Vaishali already has two daughters and this is the couple’s third child.

“Vaishali gave birth to the child during the wee hours of Sunday. As the child was a female, Vaishali deserted her, as it is suspected she thought the husband would be unhappy about this,” Jadhav added.

The police team questioned people around about who had been recently pregnant, and discovered it was Vaishali who had delivered the baby. Police have decided to register a case against Vaishali for allegedly deserting her newborn daughter.
