When you say comfort food, the first thing that comes to my mind is vegetarian fare! Having said that, Indian vegetarian food has so much variety that it makes things difficult for me to zero down on one thing! But my favourite would be the Maharashtrian/Gujarati Thali which contains a few vegetables, daal, chapati, salad, a sweet dish, etc.

All these bring out a plethora of tastes, are moderately spicy and light on the stomach. For this,  I love going to Hotel Shreyas, Krishna Dining Hall and Panchavati Gaurav.

My second love after thalis, is south Indian snacks. Again, the reason is the same — a variety, non-spicy and easy to digest. Here, Aryan, Vaishali and Wadeshwar on FC Road win the round!

North Indian cuisine also appears on my favourites’ list, but I think it is better suited to the northern parts, where the weather is suitable. I often visit Punjab for my concerts and have experienced this.

I love the paneer, mooli and gobi parathas, malai kofta and navaratan kurma, paneer butter masala, yellow dal and dal makhani avalaible there. If I am in a mood for some spices, then I enjoy Jalfrezi and veg handi.

My work makes me travel a lot and I get to try out cuisines from across the country. The method of preparation, use of vegetables and spices and the tastes changes with regions and this fascinates me.

Last but not the least, I love all the types of Indian sweets. Starting from puran poli, shrikhand, jalebi, basundi (but not rabadi) to ras malai, sandesh, all Bengali sweets to south Indian sweets of which I don’t even know the names. For buying Maharashtrian sweets, few places can beat “Chitale”.

When it comes to food from other countries, the Chinese food made Indian way (with spices) and also the Mexican food is my favourite. In Chinese, I enjoy the vegetable fried rice, Manchurian, noodles, American chopsuey whereas in Mexican, enchiladas and tacos are my favourites. I have always tried them outside Pune during my concert tours!
