When I’m low, I seek the comforts of cheese, especially the creamy kinds — the one that melts in your mouth — ah, bliss! If you offer me a plain cube of Kraft cheddar cheese with no bread to go with it, I’ll gobble it up in no time! Of course, when I hear cheese, I think pizza!

The fancy American pizza chains don’t impress me. My favourite pizza is the one that this humble place called Supreme Pizza on JM Road dishes out. I used to devour it regularly when I was pregnant so it’s no surprise that my daughter loves it too. When I bite into that pizza, I float to different world.

Chilly cheese toast is also one of my favorites and the one you get at Poona Club is the best. That apart, coffee is a compulsive comfort beverage. Coffee is happiness in a cup. I don’t care for flavoured coffee. It’s perfect the way nature expects us to brew it! The Café Frappe at CCD — one of my frequent haunts — is quite heavenly. I’ll down that over plain ice cream, any day.

I also get those regular chaat cravings. Paani Puri, Bhel and Papdi Chaat — yum! Being a Mumbai girl, I prefer my bhel without peanuts, farsaan and tomato. The Bhel my mom prepares is lip-smacking. It’s quite unique, because her chutney is made from khajoor and imli, resulting in a flavour far richer than that of any other chutney you get in the market. Of course, the love she pours into the mix is her secret ingredient.

And finally, the divine, irresistible chocolate, that often entices me towards it! God bless the Aztecs who invented this brown-coloured piece of gold — some 3,500 years ago. Toblerone, Cadbury Silk and After Eight are finalists in my list of comfort foods for the restless soul.
