My mother is the greatest cook I have ever known. I can devour whatever she makes at any time of the day and in any amount. The food she makes is what defines comfort food for me. It is heavenly and it manages to relax me irrespective of my mood at the time. She is a pro at every cuisine and dishes out the best grub for me.

But two of my favourites are her simple subjis like cauliflower, prepared with a generous helping of love or birda with rice which tastes awesome when coupled with sliced onions and papad. We were not very well-to-do when I was growing up. But my mother still managed to create tasty food with whatever little ingredients that were available in our house.

I remember how her unique mixes would turn into delicacies for us, for instance, she would saute rice from the previous day and serve it with tea. I would relish the combination and gobble it all up after returning from school.

When I was shooting in Jawahar, I tasted chicken cooked in coconut gravy (shahalyatale chicken). There the meat is cooked in coconut water and milk. It was an amazing dish and the taste still lingers in my mouth.

One of my favourite eatouts is Baban’s in Thane, it serves the best paya soup. It serves this typical home made stuff which is tasty and reasonable. Chinese cuisine is also comfort food for me.

My all-time favourite is Chicken Peking rice blended with some yummy noodles, gravy and rice. A triple treat!
