Mercifully, we get a fresh chance every year to pretend as if the many dressing faux pas never happened or however hard we may try we cannot remember a time where we felt really thrilled with our outfit. We can, now in a new year, open a new page.
Let’s go through our pictures from the past year; segregate the ones that make us smile from the ones that make us cringe in embarrassment (and quickly destroy them). Our past is full of such flops or total hit looks.
Now we will try to create our 2012 look around our hits. Let’s weed through our wardrobe like a constant gardener. In the words of Evelyn Waugh – Change is the only evidence of life. So let’s revive our neglected sense of personal style and with renewed zeal, reclaim the status of the diva.

Being a part of this industry and also because I enjoy it, I update myself with the latest on trends and looks. It’s not tough maintaining a fashionable look and you definitely don’t need deep, endless pockets for that. Just small adjustments would do the trick. I, personally, have resolved to bring in bright colours and explore various hues in my clothes and stay away from my ‘safe’ colour choices.

Ironically, as a person who is involved in the making of gorgeous, comfortable dresses I find myself constantly wearing jeans weather it is for work or for my travels. So this year I have resolved to indulge in dresses — be it a sundress or an evening piece, maxi dress or a shift.
My advice would be to make ourselves more aware of the exciting world of fashion. If searching for something suitable to watch on telly, then please consider a bit of Fashion TV and keep yourself updated and inspired. You would be amazed at the exciting possibilities and new clothing options that would open up for you.

After completing an outfit there is so much waste of fabric and lining, which can be used to make another! So, this year I am trying to incorporate ways where I may be able to use these waste fabrics and make clothes for the underprivileged and needy people. It’s still just a thought but I hope to bring it in action sometime soon.
With my individual style, I am going to go a little slow with the use of leggings. I have leggings in every possible material! So, now I have decided to stay in good shape and wear more of trousers. The colour yellow will be welcomed by me. With inputs from Anjali Shetty)

I have decided to go all out and experiment with my look and attire this year. From glares to shoes, I am going all out to bring a change in my wardrobe. I am heavy on the pocket, so why not! Getting rid of all the whites in my wardrobe is on the priority list. I want to experiment with earthy and pastel shades.
My waist coats will be on hold for a while as I am going introduce to jackets and blazers in my closet. Though brown and black are my conventional favourites with shoes, this year I will be making place for Converse and Slip-ons!
Bosky Sahani, yoga instructor
I have never been the fashion-conscious one. Neither do I follow fashion nor am I very experimental too. Being a yoga instructor, I am often found in my work clothes, which I know I need to change. I am not a stickler for day-to-day changes in my attire.
So, for 2012, I will try and bring in a balance in my wardrobe. I normally follow the colour of the season and stick to it. Black is also a hot favourite and wins hands-down whenever in doubt.
This, I am trying to change and will bring in more colours. After a session if I need to visit a friend, I feel lazy to change out of my yoga clothes. So, this is where I want to bring out the prettier dresses from the wardrobe, more often! I love accessories too and whenever I get a chance I put on as much as possible.

Well, it’s all about giving your wardrobe some tender loving care. Step away from your regular style and try a new look. No need to take drastic steps, but gently introduce a trend.
Neon colours are big this season, so instead of investing in something like a neon coloured dress start with maybe a brooch in an eye-popping colour. Within the purview of your comfortable style try to incorporate a new trend. If you have been wearing skinny jeans, maybe you can invest in a parallel cut.
A wardrobe review every three months is more practical than a yearly one. Please don’t hold on to clothes that you have not worn. Recycle, donate and make room for your new look.

I hope in 2012 people get over with their obsession of ‘brands and nothing else but brands’ and give authentic handicrafts a chance. Even though this wish of mine maybe detrimental to my business but I would like to see more brides being wed in conventional handcrafted weaves of South Asia and people from all walks of life embracing these.
Men, just a gentle reminder that since voluminous bifurcates are not hazardous to health, give it a try. Ladies, please go easy on cosmetics. Our body is going to last for a while (unless the world is really going to end this year!).

A true fashionista will always have a professional mender/ darner/ alteration specialist on her speed dial. In 2012, I’m renewing my commitment towards the environmental implications of our day-to-day fashion related choices.
I would wish for all of us to be a bit more conscious of our smallest decisions, say, if some garment has just been worn for a short while, just airing it out will refresh it for the next wear and save buckets full of water or deciding between frequent washes and a dry clean.
Don’t discard a garment because of a snag, hole or stain. Just a little mending can elongate the life of your favourite garment and reduce your carbon footprint to a dainty, fashionable size.
