Finger rings are pretty and delicate and we all love to flaunt them! But blindly following the latest trends in rings may not be such a great idea.

It is vital that you go in for the correct information and details before you go out and splurge on that ring you have been eyeing for long. Neha Bhale, a certified jeweller helps us with the necessary details.

The perfect ring

“The perfect ring has to be balanced and defined so as to suit and complement the person wearing it. It has to fit perfectly on the bone and the band has to be the exact size as to hold the weight of the ring and not move. The curvature of the band is as important as the width,” advises Neha.

She adds that one should find out which stone (in some cases, even metal) suits one. “You should make sure that the stone is set strongly or chances of it getting loose or giving trouble are high. It is important that you go for certified stones, especially the coloured stones as many a times, the metal hides the flaw.”

In terms of metal she points out, “The metal used is the cement of each design. As rings are easiest to get damaged, it is very important to use the right purity and weight. Gold is the best option and now coloured gold is very popular.

When using platinum harder stones go well with it.” Softer stones should not be fitted with metals like platinum as their softness will make the stone loose.

In style

Neha reveals, “The eternal rings which will always stay in fashion are the classic solitaire and bands. Rings are getting bolder than ever. And they are making a fashion statement. Colourful stones set with diamonds are the ‘in’ thing. Fashion wise, you can match your ring with your attire.

Many women opt  cocktail rings and many of them are set with semi-precious stones. Eternal rings set with diamonds and rubies are in fashion too. Today, women are  going in for global trends and avoiding Indian designs. Animal prints or nature rings are a huge craze too.”

Band note

Getting some notes out of the ring lover’s book would be appreciated. Restaurant consultant Kearron Chavaan is one such lover. She reveals that she is not much of a jewellery person. “...especially the real ones which are forgotten, once stored away in the locker.

But I like to invest in a good pair of earrings or finger rings. If I am able to pick a nice finger ring, I am good to go. I am also into artificial jewellery.”

She feels, if you have a good finger ring, you do not need any watch or heavy jewellery to complete the look. “I have a diamond ring and a Meenakari ring with a peacock on it. In addition, I have also inherited an old ring with pearl from my grandmother and it has a huge sentimental value to it.”

She adds that one should also own a big diamond ring. “They will be used. Artificial jewellery which are not cheap, fade away after some time.

So you can spend some extra money on the real things which stay with you. I have good manicured hands, otherwise flaunting a beautiful ring goes waste.”

Housewife Smita Kulkarni has her heart set on cocktail rings. “I am not a jewellery person. But finger rings enhance the beauty of any outfit. For me, rings are a style statement.

Cocktail rings look glamourous and change the look of any outfit, be it an evening dress or jeans or shirt. I keep all my rings in a plastic pouch and take utmost care of them.”
