Beat the monsoon gloominess by adding a dash of neon. Bright eyelids, lips, or nails — we show you how to pop these fluorescent hues

  Get those electrifying eyes 

Nothing spells funky like adding a bit of bright yellow, orange, green or blue eye shadow to light up your eyes.
 
Aakriti Kochar, beauty expert, Oriflame India, suggests,“Wear a stark neon eye shadow, without any kohl or eyeliner. Apply it perfectly till your eye socket. Make sure to dab enough colour, so that it’s visible. 

Pull this off with flawless skin.” If you have a bright-coloured neon eyeliner, you can use it above your regular black liner. For heightened drama, use a thicker liner of any neon colour on your bottom lashes! If you want to go for an all-out neon look, select highly pigmented, opaque neon shades.
 
Says Bianca Hartkopf, beauty expert, Revlon, “Since opaque eye shadow is very bold, make your eyes the main focal point and pair it with a liquid eyeliner and mascara.”

  Preen a neon poun 

When it comes to lips, don’t stray far from the usual lip colours (neon green is a strict no-no!) A tangerine shade or fiery fuchsia will brighten up your face by drawing attention to your mouth.
 
Beauty expert Shahnaz Husain says, “Of neon lipsticks, the coral shade goes well with Indian skin tones. It stands out when worn with sheer matte skin and almost nude eye make-up.”
 
To pull neon lips off, keep the rest of your make-up simple as heavy eye make-up and bright lips together can kill your look. Fill in your lips with a liner that matches your natural lip colour, to prevent the colour from bleeding outside your lip line.

Use a lip brush to apply the neon lipstick for maximum control. Keep your eyes defined but natural looking by applying an earthy shade of eye shadow, light eyeliner and mascara only.

This makes your neon lips look intentional instead of seeming like you went mistakenly overboard. “Matte colours look gorgeous on lips as compared with lip glosses in the neon range. Use a bit of lip balm to prep your lips before application. Pigment powders in neon colours can also be used for lips,” says Bhalla.

  Flash fluorescent nails 

If you aren’t experimental enough to go the whole hog with neon make-up, you can add a pop of monsoon’s favorite hues by sporting them on your nails.

Simple to use than neon make-up, these nail paints can easily be matched with your everyday outfits too. Bright pinks, corals and melons are suitable for nearly everyone.
 
Just keep your nails at a medium length to pull off a great neon nail look. It’s important to keep these colours looking fresh by regular touch ups and taking care of chips. As Kochar suggests, “Try lime green coloured nails, don’t be afraid.”

  Pop of colour on your cheeks 

To highlight your cheekbones, only opt for colours like pink, orange or coral. Team these with subtle eyes and lips. Lots of mascara and a tinted lip balm will go well with a hint of neon on the cheeks,” says Bhalla.

You can wear heavily-blushed cheeks too, but remember to keep the rest of your face clean.
 
Add some shimmery bronzer on your forehead, cheekbones and the bridge of your nose to make a streak of colour really pop on your face. An eye liner, mascara and nude gloss can complete this look.
