|Accused Pascal Mazurier was taken to Bowring Hospital for various tests
Five days after his wife filed a police complaint accusing him of sexually abusing their three-year-old daughter, police on Tuesday arrested Pascal Mazurier, an official attached to the French consulate in Bangalore.
A team of cops reached the guest house, where Pascal was put up, inside the French embassy in Vasanthnagar around 5.30 am and woke up the39-year-old.Afterabriefexplanation, the team arrested Pascal and brought him to High grounds police station.
Little later, Pascal was taken to Bowring Hospital for medical examination. According to city police commissioner BG Jyothi Prakash Mirji, Pascal went through various tests, including a DNA sample.
“Some test results will be out by Wednesday. Few samples have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory and DNA center for further examination,” police sources said.
Lastweek,Pascal’swife,anIndian citizen, approached police. In her complaint, she said, “Around one and-a-half years ago when I was pregnant with my third child, my daughter conveyed through action that Pascal had caused injuries to her genitals. But my husband said it happened while playing.”
The complaint added, “After the birth of my third child, my daughter refused to be picked up by Pascal, saying she did not want her genitals to be hurt.”
A day before the complaint, the domestic help had told the mother that Pascal was in the bedroom with his daughter for over an hour. “After examining the child, a doctor confirmed that she was sexually abused,” the mother said.
Sources said Indian police acted againstPascalaftertheygotclearance from the government. Officials in the French government have confirmed that Pascal does not hold a diplomatic passport, which meant he could be prosecuted in India. The police in Bangalore were also told that he did not enjoy any immunity as he has a regular service passport.
Hospital visit throws surprise
Chaos prevailed at Bowring Hospital when a stranger assaulted Pascal there. Since Pascal had his face covered, curious onlookers were following him. A man in the corridor asked a cop what was the matter.
After learning that Pascal had been arrested on charges of raping his child, the stranger flew into a rage and slapped the French official. He also kept on hurling a buses at Pascal. Police quickly escorted him out of the hospital.
