While there is a nation-wide outrage over the incident of a girl allegedly made to drink urine in Bengal, a private school teacher from Hyderabad stands accused of meting out corporal punishment to a student for laughing out loud in the classroom. The parents of a class VIII student of Sairam public school, at middle class area of Krishnanagar in the city, said the teacher, identified as Kumar Goud, hit their son on his head.

The student had to be hospitalised after he complained of headache. He was discharged after preliminary treatment. According to the parents, the incident took place during their son’s biology class.

The boy laughed loudly in the class when a student cracked a joke. Goud rushed to him and picked up a writing pad and allegedly hit him. Speaking to Mirror, the student said, “The teacher did not even ask me why I was laughing.”
 
The parents staged a dharna in front of the school, demanding action against Goud. They, however, did not lodge a police complaint after the principal assured them of strict action against Goud.

  WB Girl still in shock  

The 10-year-old girl who was allegedly made to drink her own urine in the Visva- Bharati campus as a punishment for bed-wetting is finding it difficult to cope with the situation, her father said on Tuesday.
 
"She is yet to recover from the shock. She has not been eating properly," the girl's father, said. Apprehensive of a repeat of the incident, the girl also does not want to go back to the school.

The Visva-Bharati university authorities have claimed that the warden, Uma Poddar, asked her to lick the urine since she believed the practice would cure her of bedwetting. The authorities, after receiving flak from all quarters on the issue, have requested the girl's parents to make her a day scholar.
