The rickety rollercoasters of the 1900s: thrilling, but you may lose a limb

If some of today’s theme park rides make you queasy just by the sight of them, then look away now.
 
These pictures, taken at amusement parks in the early 1900s, show how safety measures were the last thing on the minds of theme parks owners and thrill-seekers who were willing to risk their lives for an adrenaline rush.

Fatalities were common, especially on roller coasters with many people falling to their deaths, reported the Daily Mail. The sign on the ride named the ‘Tickler’ at Cincinnati — which read: ‘Re-modeled. Not as rough as last season’ — says it all.
