Palestine agrees to exhuming Arafat’s body over poison claim

The Palestinian Authority agreed Wednesday to exhuming Yasser Arafat's body after new allegations he was poisoned with the radioactive element polonium-210 in 2004.

A Swiss institute that examined clothing provided by Arafat's widow Suha as part of an Al Jazeera expose said it found "surprisingly" high levels of polonium-210. Palestine said it will approve bringing Arafat's remains up for autopsy.

"The Authority is ready to clear the way for an investigation into the true causes leading to the martyrdom of the late president," a spokesman for President Mahmoud Abbas said. The findings stirred old suspicions that Israel was behind the death of Arafat whom it shunned after peace talks collapsed in 2000.
