Synopsis: To add to the scores of legends passed down generations of people in the Scottish highlands, there is a new tale of the courageous Merida (the voice of Kelly Macdonald) who confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts.
The skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson) is determined to carve her own path in life. For this, she defies an age-old custom that is sacred to the lords of the land: Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane).
Her actions unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom. Merida approaches an eccentric old witch (voice of Julie Walters) but she is granted an ill-fated wish. Consequently, she discovers the meaning of true bravery while undoing the beastly curse before it is too late.

After beginning in thrilling fashion, Brave turns rather silly and slapsticky rather quickly, as if it were aimed mainly at the little kids in the audience rather than the whole family, for whom most Pixar movies are so satisfying and quite often moving.
This time, the usual depth of story and well-developed characters simply aren't there. It's a pleasant diversion but, comparatively, a disappointment. Pixar is long overdue for a feature with a strong female character at its center. Now that she's arrived, it's clear that she deserves better.

It’s noteworthy that this is the first Disney animated feature in a while to focus on a heroine, rather than a hero. And not a heroine whose fate is somehow bound up with romance that's a crucial distinction.
The film isn’t just about glorifying female heroism; it's a mother-daughter story, a clash of generations that builds to an exciting climax full of tension and emotion. The film is amazing to look at, but, as important as the visuals are, the bottom line – the starting point – is the comedy. Without that, these films could be the work of any studio.
