The busy and popular singer and musicians that make up the super group Shkabang find time to come together once in a while and perform. They have taken a long hiatus as Shkabang, but now that they have a band manager in place to look after their affairs, the members are finding it easier to play in gigs.
A brief note on the musicians, band members comprise Anushka Manchanda on vocals, Shiraz Bhatacharya, a video director by day plays the drums. He’s also a member of Pentagram. Then you have the brilliant guitarist Niranjan Dhar aka Pozy, best know for his association with the hugely popular rock act Zero.
He also is a part of Tough On Tobacco and KNAP. On bass you have Makarand Mane aka Papal of Pentagram. “All of us are busy with our individual lives and careers, so it is actually a pleasure to be playing with Shkabang again.
In short, it is like a refreshing break,” says Niranjan. The act will be playing a continuos set for one hour. “We decided to adopt this method during performances.
I have noticed that during concerts, there are long gaps before the band proceeds to another song. We wanted to do away with this time lag,” he explains. Last year, September, was actually when Shkabang came together to play a couple of gigs.
They played at Sunburn and other places in Goa. This will be their second gig in High Spirits, Koregaon Park when they perform today at 8.30 pm. “We will be performing some our new stuff at High,” he says.
Any Shkabang album in the pipeline? “Not that we haven’t given a thought about it, but given our schedule, it’s not possible for us to produce one right now,” he replies.
