Kasparov faces jail for allegedly biting Cop

Posted On Monday, August 20, 2012 at 08:00:01 AM

Former world chess champion Garry Kasparov and now a Russian democracy activist faces a custodial sentence of five years after he was charged for violence against a state official, according to The Telegraph.

Kasparov allegedly bit a policeman’s hand during a demonstration near a Moscow court where a judge sentenced three members of a feminist anti-Kremlin group, Pussy Riot, to two years in correctional prison.

Kasparov, 49, claims he was talking to journalists when he was arrested. He, however, dismissed the accusation as “drivel”. Pro-Kremlin media showed a 29-year-old police officer Denis Ratnikov holding up a bandaged left hand claiming that Kasparov had bitten him as he tried to scramble out of a bus after being arrested.
