The IndicThreads Conference on Java technology was held on December 12, 2009 in Pune. In a novel initiative aimed at promoting green and eco-friendly ethics among its delegates, the conference came up with several green initiatives.

Harshad Oak, founder of IndicThreads, said “The theme of the conference theme — ‘Turning The Corner’ — was a statement on the state of Java technology today.

However, it seems that ‘Turning The Corner’ applies just as much to our environment. Our green initiatives encourage everyone to do their bit to reduce pollution and work towards a greener tomorrow.”

Oak said that the green initiatives at the conference were ‘Green IT Bicycle Challenge’. Participants in the Green IT Quiz stood to win a cool bicycle.

The other was ‘Walk the Talk’. This one encouraged delegates to walk, cycle, car-pool or use public transport to get to the conference. Each participant who did that, got a cool goodie bag from IndicThreads.

‘Plant a Tree’ is in association with a prominent NGO Nirmalya, which would give free saplings of native Indian trees to all delegates. The conference is also promoting eco-awareness and nature trail.  The conference will have awareness posters put up to raise awareness on environmental matters such as garbage segregation and reducing plas-tic usage. The conference has been organised at Hotel Orbit.
