No end in sight for ongoing ordeal
Several shops in Ghanshyam Society on D P Road have been robbed in past few months in the same ‘style’

Jerry Francis, assistant manager of the branch said, “On that night there was no security outside. The robbers managed to lift the shutter and enter the shop. They stole Rs 22,000 in cash.” Francis added that after the burglary, owners of nearby shops started keeping less cash in the tills. However, the robbers struck again. Leena Sawhney, one of the shop owners, said, “ On July 28, robbers broke into another shop. In the month of August, the robbers also struck at a computer institute from where they stole computer motherboards.” “On the night of October 19, the robbers came back and they robbed Rs 4,000 in cash from my shop and they also robbed Neelam Wine Shop and took away Rs 20,000 in cash,” Sawhney added. Francis informed, “The robbers must have done a detailed study of the area. There is a security guard in the morning but at night there is no one. We have demanded that the society provide security at night too.” Senior inspector Suhas Nadgauda of Bundgarden police station told the Pune Mirror, “After the incidents, we have increased vigilance in the area. A Bit Marshall has been appointed." "The society should also take initiative and appoint a security guard at night. We have night rounds in that area and the security guard can be helpful to us as well.” |
