Rs 2 lakh siphoned through netbanking

Here is another case of an unsuspecting victim falling prey to an internet fraud. A 49-year-old man lost Rs 2 lakh after he gave his bank account details in response to a phishing email. Arun Pawar, a resident of Jeevannagar in Chinchwad, has lodged a complaint with Chinchwad police station. Pawar in his first information report (FIR) said, “After going through my bank account details I noticed that my account balance had decreased." "On checking all my transactions, I realised that on October 10, Rs 2 lakh was transferred to five accounts through five separate transactions.” Sub-inspector S S Sayyad, who is investigating the case, said, “A few weeks back Pawar had got an email, which appeared to be from ICICI bank, asking him to upgrade his account details. Without realising that the mail was a fake one, Pawar gave his account details, including the password." "Later with the help of these details, Rs 2 lakh was withdrawn from his bank account. The money has been transferred to different accounts of Jayanti Diyora in Gujarat, Chandresh Kumar in Mumbai, Shankar Bomera in Mumbai, Alkesh Devani in Gujarat and Purvesh Mehta in Mumbai." "Now, a case of cheating has been lodged against these people.” |
