Security has been beefed up at the Pune airport, after Air India received a terror mail threatening that an aircraft of the national carrier would be blown up on November 1.

On Sunday, strict checking along with the presence of additional security force was seen at the airport.

Taking serious note of the terror mail, various airports across the country have been put on alert.

Capt S K Mahajan, airport director of Pune airport, said, “After the threats to Air India, the airport has been put on alert. We are not taking any chances and have beefed up the security at the airport.

Additional forces have been deployed at the airport and passengers are allowed to enter the airport only after they go through a thorough security check.”

Rakesh Kankaria, one of the passengers said, “The elaborate checking procedure did cause a little inconvenience, but once we learnt that it was being done for security reasons, we had no problems. I feel such checking is required for ensure safety of the passengers.”

The police did not allow any vehicle to stop in front of the airport entrance and people were told to park their vehicles strictly in the parking bay. Policemen were stationed at the checkpost and all the vehicles entering the airport premises were checked.
