Mahesh Kamble, a 22-year-old, was beaten to death by his neighbours at Thergaon following a squabble on Monday night. Hinjewadi police have arrested Yusuf Shafik Sheikh (19) and his aunt Fatima Mazhar Khan (35), residents of Padwalnagar on charges on murder after the deceased youth’s father Kaillash Kamble (54) lodged the complaint. Inspector-in-charge of Hinjewadi police station, G S Madgulkar said, “The incident took place at around 9 pm in Padwalnagar when the deceased Mahesh’s brother, Ashish was riding his bicycle on the road. Yusuf came on a motorcyle and collided with Ashish’s bicycle as a result of which they fell down. It was a minor collision and both of them sustained minor injuries. But Ashish’s elder brother Mahesh started quarelling with Yusuf. He taunted Yusuf and asked if he was blind and if Yusuf did not know how to ride a motorcycle. These words made Yusuf angry and he also started abusing Mahesh. Mahesh snatched the keys of Yusuf’s bike. Hearing the commotion, people and passers by had already gathered on the spot.” “Yusuf’s aunt, Fatima emerged from the crowd and joined the brawl. She started abusing Mahesh and asked him to give the keys to Yusuf’s bike back. When Mahesh refused to give back the keys, both Yusuf and Fatima started beating Mahesh. They hit him so hard that Mahesh fell on the road. His head hit the ground and he became unconscious. He was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Mahesh’s father lodged a complaint after which we arrested Yusuf and his aunt. Both of them were produced in the court and have been given a day’s police custody,” Madgulkar added.
