Corporator alleges harassment by recovery agent

After being allegedly threatened and abused for the last two years, PMC corporator from Parvati finally decided to act

I am a representative of public. I am being harassed for the last two years by a bank recovery agent for an offence that I have not committed at all.

How they may be behaving with the common person,” said Sunil V Zagade, corporator of Pune Municipal Corporation from Parvati, after filing a complaint against an agent of ABN AMRO bank for allegedly issuing threats on phone, despite paying the entire credit card bill outstanding two years ago.

Zagade (50), who is a resident of Pitru-Smruti Bungalow in Sahakar Nagar area, lodged the complaint against Satyajeet (full name yet to be ascertained) who claimed to be the Delhi-based recovery agent of ABN AMRO bank. Dattawadi policefiled charges as a non-cognizable offence.

Zagade told Pune Mirror that he had taken the credit card of the bank some three years back and had also purchased many a thing at regular intervals. In March 10, 2007, he had closed the account by paying full and final payment by depositing a cheque of Rs 2,373 drawn at Suvarnyug Co-operative Bank at its Market Yard branch.

Zagade said that despite the payment, he has been constantly receiving the calls from the number 0911147681400. The caller started demanding dues. Although Zagade initially neglected the calls, day after day the caller, who kept on calling, became abusive while issuing threats.

On his scary experience Zagade said, “I told Satyajeet that I have already paid the entire amount and there is no need to call me without confirming (with the bank). I also tried to convince him that he can send a person to cross-check the documents, including the receipt that bank had given him."

"But he claimed that I was lying and have to immediately pay the amount, otherwise I have to face legal action and his agents would come to home to seize my property."

"Despite telling him that he is a public representative, the caller continued his threat and became more abusive.”

Inspector-in-charge of Dattawadi police station, B S Chaugule, said that they have approached the bank and they are trying to locate who is making threatening calls. The number has been traced to a call centre in Delhi. Rajesh Patil from the credit card department of ABN AMRO bank told the Pune Mirror that it was Zagade who had used the abusive language against the recovery agent.
