History-sheeter turns victim
The man, who is a suspect in a few thefts, alleged that he’d been robbed by dacoits

Till Thursday morning, the police looked at 26-year-old Shekhar Ambawale as a history-sheeter who has been a suspect in a few petty thefts. But when he walked into the Sahakarnagar police station on Thursday, it was to lodge a complaint that he himself has been robbed by a gang of dacoits. Shekhar has lodged a complaint alleging that a gang of six dacoits pounced upon him in Upper Indiranagar area of Bibvewadi, beat him up, snatched cash of Rs 5,000 that he carried on him and took off on two-wheelers. In his complaint, Ambawale has named some of the robbers as Bibvewadi residents Anil Gorad, Umesh Kokate, Kupya alias Sujeet Londhe, Khetya and Nilesh. No arrests have been made so far. Sub-Inspector N M Sawant from Sahakarnagar police station said, “Ambawale said the incident took place around 2 am on Thursday. He said he was chatting with a few acquaintances near a Hanuman temple in Upper Indiranagar when the six men attacked him. He claimed they beat him up before holding him at gun point. Later they took off on motorbikes after taking all the cash he had on him.” Sub Inspector Chandrakant Mane, who has been assigned to investigate the case, said,“Our records mention about Ambawale’s criminal past. He has been a suspect in some petty thefts." "Gorad has also been suspecct in some crimes and was released from the jail only a few days ago.” |
