Cops nip heist in the bud
A gang of six were arrested on Sunday evening while planning a robbery atop Somwar Peth lodge terrace

A gang of six youths allegedly planning a heist were arrested by Samarth police on Sunday evening. The robbers are informed to have rented a room at a Somwar Peth lodge and at the time of the arrest, they were planning the heist up on the lodge’s terrace. The arrested are Mayur Balasaheb Chavan (19), Manoj alias Bableya Maruti Dighe (22), both residents of Somwar Peth, and Santosh Dagrusingh Rajput (21), Prasant Dashrath Gaikwad (24), Vishal Shantkumar Talwade (25) and Rajendra Nagre (21). The police have seized choppers, swords, iron rods, knives and packets of chilly powder from the accused. Sub-inspector Bhagwan Bhosle informed, “We were tipped off on some armed men planning a dacoity atop the terrace of Amol Lodge in Somwar Peth. We rushed there. The gang members tried to flee by jumping from the terrace, but were soon nabbed by policemen waiting below. Two even jumped onto the terrace of an adjoining building and hid there, but were nabbed eventually.” Bhosle added, “All six are found to have criminal records. While there is a case of attempt to dacoity against Mayur, three cases of robbery and rioting are registered against Manoj. Santosh has been arrested before on charges of murder, while there is a case of attempt to murder against Prashant. We are presently digging into the records of Vishal and Rajendra. We are also interrogating the accused to know the target of their foiled heist. The gang have been remanded to four days of police custody.” |
