Fireman and citizen journalist Subhash Jadhav sent Mirror the pictures of the deceased’s removal from the lift shaft by the fire brigade men. The incident came to light when the building’s resident — identified only as Naik — informed the control room about a man being trapped in the lift shaft between the first and second floors. The control room then relayed this information to the fire brigade, from where the Kondhwa police were alerted. While a huge crowd gathered in the building premises to see the ‘rescue’ operation, the fire brigade men, led by leading fireman Sitaram Khake, struggled for over an hour to get the trapped body out. The identity of the deceased has been ascertained as Balaji Ganpat Panchal. Panchal is a resident of Siddharth Nagar in Kondhwa. Pankaj Jagtap, station duty officer, fire brigade, said, “When the control room informed us about the incident, we rushed to the site with a fire engine and a rescue van." "It took us more than an hour to take the body out as it was badly entangled in the lift shaft. In fact, we had to cut open the door to take the body out.” Sub-inspector Rajaram Kshirsagar, who was present at the spot, said, “The rescue operation continued for over an hour. Enquiries with the residents revealed that Panchal was the maintenance in-charge of the building." "As he was working alone, there are no witnesses to give us any clue to his death. The exact reason for his death is still not known, but it seems that he got electrocuted while doing some wiring work. However, investigations are still on." "The body has been sent to Sassoon Hospital. We have registered a case of accidental death.” |
