If the proposal tabled by a senate member of University of Pune (UoP) comes through, health check-up will no longer be a requirement for just newly hired employees, but for students seeking admission as well.

The proposal tabled by senate member Hari Solanki makes it mandatory for every student seeking admission in UoP institutions to have a health check-up done before submission of admission forms.

It is set to be discussed in the ongoing UoP senate meeting which began on Thursday November 26. If passed, the provision of compulsory health check-up will be implemented from the next academic year, i.e 2010-11.

The proposal has been formulated against the backdrop of the swine flu threat. In his proposal, Solanki writes, “The aim behind such resolution is to make students and parents aware about health issues.

With various institutions already taking steps to prohibit H1N1 spread, such provision by University would be apt as its social responsibility.”

The proposal mentions it will be implemented at the college level. It suggests that every college be given forms for the compulsory medical check-up along with the admission forms.

The student will be required to get himself/herself checked from a registered doctor before submitting the admission form.
