Couple of problems in Chinchwad

A couple swindled several people from a society in Ramnagar under the garb of collecting funds to run a saving club

The Chinchwad police is on the look out for a swindler couple who duped several members of a society in Ramnagar under the garb of collect-ing funds to run a saving club (bishi). The couple collected money by cre-ating sympathy in the minds of the people.

The members of the club rushed to the police station after the couple who had been staying there for the last four years disappeared mysteriously on Thursday.

Sriram Salunkhe, a resident of Phulenagar area of Chinchwad has lodged a complaint with the Chinchwad police station against Priya Bali-ram More and Baliram Bhagoji More, residents of Devkulwadi of Ratnagiri district.

Pintya Kadam and Gurudeo Kadam, Priya’s brothers are also mentioned in the FIR along with an unknown woman from the Mohan-nagar area in Chinchwad.

Inspector T D Gaud, who is in charge of Pimpri police station, said, “According to the complaint, the suspects had started a saving club and collected money from the residents of Ramnagar, Vidyanagar and Dat-tanagar area."

"The members who had invested their money in the saving club were getting returns regularly for the last couple of years because of which many people had invested large amounts in the saving club after the couple succeeded in creating faith in their minds.

Gaud said, “Priya borrowed Rs 1.5 lakh from Sriram Salunke saying the money was for the marriage of her sister. Later she borrowed Rs 5 lakh from another resident, Prabhavatri Sawant for the treatment of her father in-law."

"However, Sawant who is a resident of Ramnagar could give her only Rs 3.5 lakh. In the same way, the couple took Rs 1.2 lakh from one Ram Uttekar, a resident from Ramnagar."

"After the families did not get their money back on time, they started asking for their money from the More family. To avoid the demands they issued some cheques of the State Bank of India.

Gaud added, “According to the complaint, Priya’s brothers from Mum-bai and a woman from Mohannagar had supported the suspects. The en-tire family disappeared on November 10. According to the complainants they fled with all their belongings. We are investigating the case and soon the culprits will be in our net.”
