A senior citizen woman from Kondhwa, who had suffered a hip injury, was relieved of  jewellery worth over Rs 3.31 lakh by a man whom she recruited to do her bank and house work during her illness.

Now, the Kondhwa police is looking for Jafar Shaikh against whom 82-year old Gul Makhijani has lodged a complaint.

Narrating the whole incident, sub-inspector J A Kadam who is investigating the case said, “Gul Makhijani was bed ridden after she suffered a hip injury.

She was looking for a new flat at the time, when she came to know Shaikh through the doctor who was treating her. Later on, she  moved into the flat which Shaikh showed her.

After that she was looking for someone who could help her with her bank work and housework. Once again she asked Shaikh for help and he offered to do it.

Shaikh would deposit money and withdraw money from her bank depending on what she asked him to do. He would also manage the bulk of the housework. In this way, he slowly but surely won Gul’s confidence as was evident when she started entrusting him with the keys to her cupboard.

This arrangement went on for almost six months and everything seemed to be going smoothly. Until one day when Shaikh fled with her jewellery.

Gul had given him the keys to the cupboard to take something out. Instead, he opened the locker of the cupboard and stole the jewellery she kept there. It was then that she lodged a complaint with us.”

Kadam added, “We are now looking for Shaikh. We have also interrogated the doctor who had introduced Shaikh to Gul Makhijani.  We are planning to get his sketch made as well. The investigation is on.”
