Students appearing for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) examinations could hope to give their exams in comfort this year.

This could happen if a proposal sent by the State Education Board to the State Education Ministry for purchasing generators to be used in case of load-shedding during exams is passed.

Last month, the State Education Board sent a letter seeking permission for purchasing genrators. These generators will be helpful for the students and they won’t have to struggle with the load-shedding problem during the exams.

The Board has demanded Rs 45 crore for the purpose of purchasing generators saying that they don’t have such a large amount in their kitty.

According to calculations carried out by the Board, the cost of using a genrator at each examination centre will be around Rs 2,000. However, arrangments of the generator is a big headache to Board, especially in remote areas, the board claims.

The two examintaions will be on for almost a month. The examinations generally start in February and continue till March.

Often students who appear in these exams, are doubly stressed because they have to cope with the heat caused as a result of load-shedding. Some students have also complained that they fail to concentrate in the examintion hall due to the heat.

This year, students from nearly 22,000 schools and junior colleges will be appearing for these exams. However, the decision of the State Education Ministry on the proposal is still awaited.
