In what appears to be a spate of robberies at wedding functions, a third such incident took place on Thursday night. Jewellery worth Rs 87,000 was stolen from Residency Club.

Savita Udayveer Singh Yadav (48), a resi-dent of Krishna Home in Nigdi, lodged a complaint with Bund Garden police stating that her jewellery and two cellphones were stolen from her daughter’s wedding venue.

Savita stated in her first information report that she had kept her jewellery in her sister’s handbag along with the cellphones while going on the stage to perform some rituals. She added, “While we were busy with kan-yaadaan rituals, somebody stole the handbag.

We noticed the loss only after the function was over.” Sub-inspector Mohini Sonar, who is investigating the case, said. “We have not found any clue, but are probing the case from all angles. The club authorities ruled out the involvement of their staff.”

The club manager, refusing to be named, said, “We have trustworthy staff. We often find misplaced valuables here and return them to the owners. At times, one thinks the belongings have been stolen when they are in fact inadvertantly taken away by a relative.”

Inspector in-charge of Bund Garden police station Suhas Nadgauda said he often gets such complaints from wedding venues under his jurisdiction.
