My life became hell after I got married to Shobha. Shobha and my in-laws not only tortured me but also separated me from my daughter. All of them should be punished.

To avoid misuse of this suicide note, I have already put five copies of this letter at different places,” says a suicide note found near the body of Amol Rajendra Devkar (28), an employee of the Pune university who commited suicide on Monday.

Amol, who was working in the University of Pune as an electrician, ended his life by hanging himself from a tree near the professor’s quarters within the university campus.

Chatushrunghi police, which is investigating the case, has filed a case of accidental death and is likely to file a case of abetment to suicide. Nobody has been arrested so far.

Inspector A N Kadam, of the Chatushrungi police said, “According to the letter, Amol’s marriage to Shobha was his second marriage. His first wife and his parents had died in an accident few years ago.

He had married Shobha (26), a resident of Indira colony in Aundh, four years ago. The couple have a daughter and and he used to stay with his in-laws. However, all three were harassing him for petty reasons.

Unable to bear this, Amol got married to another woman from Pimple Nilakh. When Shobha came to know of this, she rented a house near their house in Pimple Nilakh and started harassing him more by keeping him away from his daughter.  Amol couldn’t cope with Shobha’s aggressive nature.”

Continuing, Kadam added, “Meanwhile, Shobha declared that she was moving back to Aundh with her parents and asked Amol to join her. Amol agreed reluctantly but was never happy.

Finally seeing no other way out, Amol decided to commit suicide.” On Monday he left his house at around 10.30 in the morning and with the help of some rope he hung himself from a tree near Kothi gate. The police found the suicide note on him.”

Kadam said that police came to know about the incident from a passer-by.
