As dengue worries sweep the city again, frantic efforts to find a solution have begun — not just by civic authorities, but also by the medical community.

Along these lines, in a bid to do its bit against the dengue menace in the city, the research team at Prana (a city-based homeopathy- yoga centre) headed by homeopath Dr Sunil Anand, has come up with a homeopathic remedy for the infection — a tablet called Tabacum.

The creator of ‘Tabacum’ Dr Sunil Anand (inset) says his tablet is a remedy for the current epidemic

Dr Anand said, “The dengue outbreak had been a cause of major concern, so we decided to take it upon ourselves to develop an alternate cure. With the support of Dr Gadia of KEM Hospital, we undertook research of the medical history of 25 dengue patients admitted in the hospital over the last three weeks, and found a common pattern of symptoms in the samples.

The most prominent symptoms were severe nausea, palpitation, vertigo, crampy pains in the abdomen and legs and a marked coldness among others. After careful, extensive scrutiny, we developed Tabacum.”

Tabacum has already been administered to 15 of the studied patients in KEM, who, the doctor said, have responded well to it, with each experiencing a significant rise in their platelet count within 24 hours.

The dosage of the tablet, which costs a mere Rs 10, depends on each individual case. “It isn’t just a remedy, but works as a preventive medicine,” Dr Manisha Kamble, another member of the research team informed Mirror.

Dr Anand added, “However, people must note that this is not a general remedy to dengue. It is only applicable to the current epidemic and is zone-restricted, with only patients in Maharashtra allowed to avail of it.”

Tabacum is a ‘genus epidemicus’, which is a general collective remedy derived by homeopaths — a common denominator that best fits the symptoms of the large group of people affected.

It is prepared from tobacco leaves through a super dilution process called potenisation, due to which toxic agents in tobacco like nicotine become healing solutions. “We hope it lends a helping hand in overcoming the dengue menace,” Dr Anand said.
