Bund Garden police have detained a 17-year-old boy from Tadiwala Road, his 20-year-old accomplice, as well as some other boys, for allegedly killing another 17-year-old boy from the area, late on Tuesday night.
The 20-year-old Rakesh Bhima Mane is also a resident of Tadiwala Road. The minor who has been detained by cops was also allegedly involved in the murder of Abhishekh alias Gaurav Suresh Ghorpade (15) in May 2010. Abhishekh’s headless body was found hanging off a tree in the jungles of Naik Island located off the Mula-Mutha river more than two years ago.
Senior police inspector Ukhaji Sonawane of Bund Garden police station told Mirror that later on Wednesday, cops arrested Suryakant Kamble (18) of the same area as well. “Kamble was also involved in Abhishekh’s murder. He was 16 then — now he is a major, which is why we have arrested him, as we suspect his involvement in this murder as well.
After the 2010 incident, he had been kept under observation for a few days and then released. He hasn’t gotten into any trouble since, till Tuesday.” According to Bund Garden police, the suspects and the deceased, Deepak Raju Ghodke (17) of Tadiwala Road who is a school dropout, knew each other. The suspects allegedly thought Deepak was doing too much ‘dadagiri’ in their locality, because of which they initiated a brawl.
The suspects assaulted Deepak with sharp-edged weapons and he sustained deep injuries on his neck and legs. Subsequently, police investigations indicate Deepak was killed around 9.45 pm. The suspects and Deepak had previously filed non-cognisable complaints against each other, but police who were following up failed to locate Deepak.
Eventually, late on Tuesday night, the news of his murder reached cops. A team led by Police Inspector Satish Nikam immediately set out in search of the suspects and booked them. Police were shocked to discover that the minor they booked had already been involved in a gruesome murder two years ago.
The minor used to study in a school in Somwar Peth and Abhishekh was his classmate back then. Investigations at the time had indicated that the victim was murdered over some trivial issue.
