The Chatuhshrungi police have seized two countrymade pistols of unprecedented finesse and six live cartridges from two suspects near Nisarg Hotel on Pashan-Sus Road on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.
Besides the firearms, the police also seized a motorcycle from the suspects totally worth Rs 1.20 lakh. All the seized bullets are of 0.7mm size and bears the engraving of Khadki Ammunition Factory.

A team led by Senior Police Inspector Ajay Kadam and Assistant Police Inspector M G Balkotgi arrested the duo identified as Bhagirah Rohidas Neharkar (26) and Krushna Jabaji Shelke (56), both residents of Junnar. Kadam said that both the seized pistols are of good quality and look like imported ones. “Both the weapons have been meticulously made.
We will investigate from where the weapons were procured and for what purpose. One of the suspects has a criminal record,” he added. Acting on a tip-off, the police team laid a trap and nabbed the suspects.
The police the entire area, where the suspects had come, is surrounded by upscale societies and bungalows and therefore extra precaution was taken to avoid any untoward incident. Kadam said, “On seeing the cops, the suspects had attempted to flee on their motorcycles.”
Dera sacha sauda men held
The Hinjewadi police on Friday arrested two security personnel of the Haryana-based non-profit religious organisation Dera Sacha Sauda (DSS) and seized two firearms and 26 bullets for carrying them without licence. The police said Yachin Badhavan and Mahendrasingh Gurutej Singh are sevaks in DSS and were carrying the firearms for the protection of their guru, who is in Chennai.
The duo along with 14 others were heading towards Chennai from Mumbai in three vehicles with red beacons and bearing the registration number of Haryana when they were arrested near Chandni chowk.
The police said all the weapons belong to DSS. Senior Police Inspector Satish Deore of Hinjewadi police station said, “The city police commissioner received a message from Mumbai stating that three rashly-driven vehicles were heading towards Pune. All the vehicles were running in tandem and were bearing registration number plates of Haryana.
The vehicles were sporting red beacons and their sirens were on.” The Hinjewadi police and traffic branch personnel were put on alert and the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass was monitored.
After spotting the vehicles, the cops ordered all the three vehicles to halt near Chandni chowk. Deore said, “ There were 16 passengers in these vehicles. While frisking, police found a revolver and 14 bullets from the possession of one of them, a pistol and 12 bullets were recovered from another.”
While the police detained Badhavan and Singh,others were let off. Deore said, “They had started their journey from Haryana. Their guru has reached Chennai and they were his security personnel. The duo told us that these were licensed pistol and revolver but their documents are in Chennai.”
