Guard held for molesting 10-year-old inside madrasa

The incident took place inside the office as victim had reached early for her Arabic class

The Kondhwa police have arrested a watchman of Jamiat Raza Madrasa located in Kondhwa for allegedly molesting and forcing a 10-year-old girl to undress in its office on Sunday.

The victim’s father, a resident of Kondhwa Khurd, has lodged a complaint with the Kondhwa police station. Senior Police Inspector Prasad Hasabnis said Abbas Hussaini Rajatali Sayyad (40) is unmarried and hails from Uttar Pradesh.
 
“He currently stays at the madrasa. We are conducting an inquiry. We are also trying to ascertain how he managed get the job,” Hasabnis said. The victim is a Class V student of a school in the area. She has been attending the madrasa to learn Quran and Arabic after school hours.

Everyday the classes are conducted between 5 pm and 6 pm at the madrasa. On Sunday, the victim and her fiveyear- old brother were dropped at the madrasa by their father at 5 pm. The police said Sayyad was at the entrance of the madrasa when the victim arrived along with her brother, but other children were yet to come for the class.

“Sensing an opportunity, Sayyad asked the girl to open the office and sit inside while her brother was waiting outside for the class to begin. Sayyad followed her and bolted the office door from inside,” Hasabnis said. The victim told the police that Sayyad was forcing her to undress.

However, she resisted and started shouting for help. The police said some boys, who were playing on a field nearby heard her screams and rushed to the office. The police said local residents and passersby also gathered and went inside the madrasa and rescued the girl.

Sayyad was thrashed by the mob before being handed over to the police. “The child was rescued due to the presence of mind shown by the boys,” Hasabnis added.
