In their bid to de-escalate tension along the Line of Control (LoC), India and Pakistan will hold a meeting of top officials from both sides, called a flag meeting in military lingo, on Monday to discuss the recent intrusions and the brutal killing of two jawans by Pakistani soldiers.

“Brigade Commanders' flag meeting will be held tomorrow at Chakan-Da-Bagh LoC point in Poonch sector of Jammu & Kashmir,” Public Relation Officer (Defence) Col R K Palta said on Sunday.

Army sources said commanderlevel flag meetings are held to sort out differences between two sides.

On January 11, the Indian Army had sent a message to the Pakistan Army, asking for a discussion on the issue of the brutal killing of two Indian jawans.

The jawans were ambushed by Pakistani troops, reportedly belonging to 29 Baloch Regiment, on January 8 deep inside Indian territory along the LoC in Poonch district. The head of one of jawans was chopped off and taken away by the attackers.

The incident prompted India to summon the Pakistan high commissioner in Delhi to lodge a protest. Monday’s discussion will be the second flag meeting to be held in the Poonch sector in the past six months.

The previous meeting was at Chakan- Da-Bagh point on June 23, following the killing of two Indian soldiers and wounding of four other jawans in ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops.

It had also led to the temporary closure of cross-LoC trade and travel via Chakan-Da-Bagh.
