Excess baggage

Last Tuesday: 98.75 kgs
This Tuesday: 98.50 kgs
I’m starting to feel like a weight-swinging starlet. After having lost over a kg the previous week, I’m down only a quarter kg last week. There are two reasons for this.

It seems after a substantial weight loss, the next weigh-in could probably be much lesser. I’m happy to buy that theory.

More realistically, I’ve spent last Monday to Wednesday out of town and I realise it’s more difficult to maintain a diet when travelling.

Inspite of managing to exercise on two of three days, diet control was certainly an issue, ably aided by the breakfast buffet at the hotel.

My total weight loss so far is almost four kgs, not spectacular, but not disappointing either.

Aside from what I regularly do, here’s some of the things I’ve learnt so far: If hunger pangs hit you in the middle of the day.

A low-fat biscuit works just as well as a sandwich. So don’t reach for the bread!

Take the stairs. Now if you have to go to a client’s office on the nineteenth floor, by all means take the lift, no point walking into a sales meeting panting.

And nobody wants to deal with someone who has his tongue hanging out. But if you live on the fifth floor, take the steps. It won’t kill you and there will certainly be some bonus calorie burning.

If you’re tired, sleepy, or whatever, don’t use that as an excuse to not exercise. Leave the house, you will come back feeling better.

Maintain a diet diary. You don’t want to be scratching your head about what you ate in the week you lost a kg compared to the week you lost no weight.

One big-binge meal can screw up your entire week’s weight loss.  I know, it happened to me and I still didn’t learn a lesson.

But that doesn’t stop me from pontificating! Rewarding yourself and going nuts are completely different things. Tomorrow, I’m going to a friend’s daughter’s Navjote, where I will be greeted with some yummy Parsi food. Let’s see if I can put my theory into practice. What stress!
