Pune: Pune FC ‘Reserves’ seem to be keeping up with the good run that the club has had so far this year. The team currently on a two-tournament exposure trip to Chhattisgarh has done well to make it to their second semifinal on the trot.

Having lost the final via the sudden-death in the in the All-India Hind Sporting Challenge Shield at Raipur, PFC reached the semifinals of the 32nd Iron Ore All India Gold Cup Football Tournament, Dalli-Rajhara, Durg.

Keeping aside the disappointment of losing 5-6 (0-0) to Kamptee Blues, Nagpur, the city side id well to qualify second from Group-A and will play ONGC, Mumbai on Monday.

The tournament played on a league-cum-knock-out basis saw PFC finish behind group favourites South Central Railway, Secun-derabad after playing out a goalless draw with Central Railway, Mumbai. Mind you Central Railway were in a must-win situation before the game owing to an inferior goal difference as compared to PFC.

While the very though of playing their second semifinal was heartening, the team had a couple of individuals turn out individual firsts. For starts, Manoj TM registered a hat-trick in PFC’s first game against home-side Rajhara FA which was won 5-0 and basi-cally laid the foundation of their progress into the last-4.

Likewise, PFC’s city-based striker Sandesh Gadkari, who was sidelined with injury, during the clubs campaign in the first half of the I-League earned his confidence back netting the all important equalizer with South Central Railway, Secunderabad. The goal was a header off a Suji Kumar M corner kick.

Having already collected a Rs 51,000 second place prize money award at Raipur, the reserves who are a mix of players from the senior team and Under-19 team, are now out to avenge PFC’s defeats to ONGC’s defeats in the past.
