Decade-ent!Friday, January 14, 2011,12:29:21 AM
The last decade was odd, I won’t even try to be artsy about it. The web spawned scores of oddball sideshow YouTube hits in the vein of Sammy Jankis Jr’s Mini Mall rap, we had major league Indie acts featured on Twilight soundtracks and we first sang along to and then forget about the tons of revivalists squeezing the last drops out of any kind of music ever ....

For her The Little Black Dress and stilettos The LBD and stilettos are perfect for a night of partying or for a formal soirée. Wear a statement neckpiece for a fun night out or a pair of simple earrings and a scarf around your neck for a more prim-and-propah do. ....

Think ThanksFriday, November 26, 2010,09:24:44 PM
It’s Thanksgiving weekend across the Atlantic. And although not all of us will be feasting on roast turkey, one thing we can do is take stock of what we have to be thankful about. ....

Scary MoviesThursday, October 28, 2010,09:52:04 PM
You can’t go wrong with a standard slasher movie. These films revolve around a psychopathic killer whose aim in life is to murder people in the messiest manner possible. His motivations are beside the point. Whether this killer is an ordinary, mentally unbalanced mortal, a supernatural figure that stalks you in your dreams, or a strange looking doll with an annoying voice, no matter ....

The Navratri LookFriday, October 08, 2010,01:01:09 AM
Instead of sporting chandelier earrings this time, try out traditional head jewellery, like ornate hair clips or tikas worn on the forehead. If you don’t have a maangtika and want to try the look, go through your mother’s jewellery box and you’ll find a chain (usually worn around the neck) with a large pendant which you can wear around your head, like an Arabian dancer. Get it right: While wearing head jewellery, don't wear earrings or neckpieces, as it will take the ....

Vanity from the kitchenThursday, September 30, 2010,11:20:07 PM
A hectic week leaves little room for personal care. To add to the trouble is the everyday exposure to pollution, harsh weather conditions and scorching heat of the sun. Use the weekend to revitalise and do it from your own kitchen! Hair Oil: Many of us believe that oiling is the quickest remedy for curing dry hair. But according to Kavita, owner of Papillon Hair and Make Up Studio, we ....

Wardrobe MakeoverThursday, August 12, 2010,10:51:31 PM
Would you believe it if I say that this lime green bag was once a tee? A retired tee that I was holding onto because of the beautiful little giraffe on it. A little worn out, a few sequins missing but too dear nonetheless. So it hid on somewhere in my closet. Then on a cleaning spree, I found it buried in various other things that had no value in their current form. To give away or not to give away was the ....

Permit me to shush youThursday, August 05, 2010,10:40:17 PM
Drinking and partying is something a lot of us considered not unusual. Some, even considered it a way of life. Therefore, it was as a big shock to find out that not only can you end up in the slammer for doing any of this, but that this law is enforced, if only very erratically. You could even be sitting in your house enjoying a glass of wine, listening to some Bach at a moderate volume and ....

Welcome bike homeThursday, July 29, 2010,09:28:26 PM
Are you a grease monkey? Wish you could fiddle with your bike without being nagged by your partner or warned by parents not to turn the house into a garage? If you want to stay close to your passion, how about adding it to the aesthetics of your house without offending the others? Everybody is into recycling these days. Which begs the question- why not bikes? Very often our ....

Score this weekendThursday, July 15, 2010,09:31:10 PM
There comes a time when the voices in your head are just not enough. Now that the World Cup, Wimbeldon and everything else that keeps one glued to the TV screen are long gone, it is time to revisit your steadiest, sole comforter — music. Recently, some friends were even having an entire IM conversation in songs, exchanging links of their favourite music to convey what they were ....

DIY World Cup FinalsThursday, July 08, 2010,10:44:36 PM
Score your own World Cup anthem: An essential item on this list is definitely that one anthem to hum drunkly. especially if you’re tired of the everyone you meet tunelessly belting out Waka Waka or Waving Flag. If Shakira is anything to go by this should be pretty easy. Find a song from the 70s with a danceable beat. It helps if it has parts sung in the language of the host country. Keep in ....

Kitsch it up!Thursday, July 01, 2010,10:54:39 PM
Coasters can be good pick me ups, making us less groggy as we sip our chai. Here’s the secret behind the ones pictured here, they were made with hardboard pieces that usually come inside gift boxes. I stuck them together and painted on them. Coasters usually see rough days what with piping hot tea and cold coffees dumped on them. To preserve your art work, apply a coat or two of ....

Virtual Identity CrisisThursday, June 24, 2010,10:39:44 PM
It was just the other day when my Internet connection was abruptly cut because of a near-apocalyptic hurricane. I surfaced from a frenzy of tweets, chats, link-sharing and cyber-mafia shoot-outs, to realise bleary-eyed, that I had been online for almost twenty four hours. What was more disturbing was that I couldn’t wait to get back on, because my real life friends were too busy at ....

45 things to do in the rainThursday, June 17, 2010,10:24:27 PM
Well, the cup is synonymous with raindrops and an overcast sky. Grabbing a cutting as soon as the pitter-patter begins is almost a reflex action. Whether you share it over some delightful conversation or while watching the outdoors, this is the hottest way to beat the gloom. Non-chai drinkers, try a cinnamon latte instead. Head to Mocha for a chai-bun maska combo or even better, to ....

Serial killingThursday, June 10, 2010,11:20:46 PM
This Grey’s Anatomy, how people are doing things with their lives and getting a career and love-lives. Why am I not so cool?” said an aspirational SMS from a friend late last night. Gets you thinking about how while some of India might still be fulminating under saas bahu serials and reality dance shows there is a rapidly multiplying breed hooked to American television. What started with This Grey’s Anatomy, how people are doing things with their lives and getting a career and love-lives. Why am I not so cool?” said an aspirational SMS from a friend late last night.
Gets you thinking about how while some of India might still be fulminating under saas bahu serials and reality dance shows there is a rapidly multiplying breed hooked to American television.
What started with Small Wonder in the early ’90s, moved on to Friends and Seinfeld, and by the millenium had diversified into hundreds of “I-watch-only-Star World-and-HBO” claims. Here are our top shows.
Lost What is it about? A science-fiction and time-travel drama about a mysterious group of characters that get abandoned on an island that turns out to be a time-space continuum.
Why tune in? The show spawned a whole generation of “Castaway in an alternate universe” sympathisers. The Season Finale which aired recently had a spate of screenings world-wide and crazed expectations of how the innumerable mysteries in the show would unravel.
How to catch it? Season 6 is currently on Indian television, but it’s all over in the real world. How to catch it? Buy the DVDs or hit the download button and veg out on the couch with all 121 episodes.
Dexter What is it about? A serial killer cop. Ok, not exactly. Dexter is a forensic scientist who works for the Miami police. He knows he has something different inside him that makes him want to kill. He learned to channel this desire to only the deserving. He’s the serial killer of serial killers.
Why tune in? Because it’s darn good. Addictive even. Apart from the single story (solved murder and separate committed murder) that each episode contains, there is another story that links each episode of a series together. Plus the opening credits alone have won awards for brilliance.
How to catch it? You have to rent DVDs as it’s not on TV yet. The first couple of seasons come highly recommended.
Grey's Anatomy What is it about? A dramatic portrayal of life in a hospital, where passionate romances, complicated friendships and twisted medical tales play out in the background of violence, death and some healing.
Why tune in? Steamy romances can be quite eye-catching in the whole doctor-doctor context. Plus amazing medical drama gives you a thrilling mix of the hilarious and heartbreaking. Star attractions include a very fetching set of male protagonists, crowned with the epithets ‘McDreamy’ and ‘McSteamy’. Any questions?
How to catch it? Catch up to Season 6 on TV. Season 7 will be on American TV this September. Wait for it with bated breath. (Not enough to send you to the emergency room though.)
True Blood What is it about? This is the ultimate dark, sometimes comic drama. A fictitious world in which vampires have “come out of the coffin” and integrate into main-stream society. In the background is the tale of a romance between small-town ‘human’ Sookie Stackhouse and her fanged paramour Bill, with slew of fascinating supporting characters.
Why tune in? A drama about how vampires, shape shifters and werewolves DO exist. Set in small-town South USA, every dialogue has a fascinating twang and each character has that dark edge. It helps that the leads (who are dating in real life) have the most amazing chemistry.
How to catch it? There’s only two seasons to catch up on, so get set go. Watch it at twilight or late night. Season 3 premieres this Sunday.
Entourage What is it about? This show centres around the meteoric rise (and periodic falls) of Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier)’s Hollywood career. Set in La-la -land, the show takes you through the fascinatingly hedonistic lifestyles of the rich and famous. Plus point? His amazing entourage.
Why tune in? Chase’s entourage including an aspiring actor (loser) brother, a best-friend who’s also his manager, a crazy old buddy enjoying the ride and his fantastically dramatic, stressed-out and brilliant agent are fab. Catch them navigate the craziest parties, super-hit movies, eccentric directors, evil producers and a never-ending slew of hot women.
How to catch it? Season 6 is over, but await for season 7 this month itself.
Desperate Housewives What is it about? Suburban America, behind it’s posh facade, manicured lawns, and deceptively perfect families has no end of twisted, dramatic evil ensuing — is the main theme of this show.
Why tune in? A set of hot, nymphomaniac, and as the title belies (rather desperate housewives) amidst deviant killers, psycho-exes, murders, divorces, tons of infidelity and a dark new mystery every season.
How to catch it? The 6th season finaled recently, and will be picked up for renewal this year.
Other shows you shouldn't miss House, Castle, Fringe,Monk, The Big Bang Theory, Treme, Scrubs, How I Met Your Mother, 30 Rock, 24, Heroes

Partying wordsFriday, June 04, 2010,12:11:53 AM
Host it in your backyard, dotting the lawn or pool-side with your barbequing equipment and tan chairs. Since our city lacks the kind of beaches that would truly personify the perfect summer party, arrange for a projector to emit an optimistic ‘beach-scene’ onto the back-wall of your house. Even better, make a short visit to your co-operative local quarry to ensure copious amounts of sand you can dump in strategic corners of your garden or around the pool to give ....

10 things a bachelor must have Friday, May 21, 2010,12:45:11 AM
While things like a microwave and fancy furniture may figure last in the list of must-have, an Xbox or an LCD TV still takes the number one spot. Says Anuj Singh, a marketing professional from Hinjewadi, "I don’t have an air conditioner yet, but hey, I have a Playstation 2, and I’m totally happy with it." Even though boys tend to remain boys, here are a few things which, we think boys simply ....
