Go-karmaSaturday, January 22, 2011,01:26:01 PM
It was a no brainer, two bikers, both photographers and passionate about everything to do with travel. We had to ride together! The two of us decided we would ride to Gokarna in Karnataka. Its an energetic little beach town on the west coast. ....

Going down southFriday, January 14, 2011,12:29:05 AM
My first sight of this exquisite landscape and I knew why even God claimed this paradise to be his very own. An impromptu getaway and my husband’s partiality to the cold, instinctively had us choose to cruise down the winding ghats to southern India’s highest peak (2,600 metres above sea level) — Munnar! ....

Pondy, mon cherie!Thursday, December 02, 2010,09:41:02 PM
Fondly referred to as La Côte d’Azur de l’Est or The French Riveria of the East, Pondicherry can easily trick you into believing that you are actually in a little French town. Well, almost. The first thing that strikes you about Pondicherry is how subtle the French charm is. Perhaps it is the way the city is laid out. A Saint Therese Street runs parallel to a Savarairayalu Street. There is an overlap, but the ....

Beach BoysThursday, November 25, 2010,08:12:55 PM
Even as we returned, I saw myself turning back to the sea and promising myself I would be back there some day — this is what the salty sea and pristine beaches do to you. The idea behind our four-day trip was to visit five beaches instead of just one. We were sure we could go according to our plan as no women were accompanying us. Fortunately, our better halves agreed to let us ....

FortingFriday, October 22, 2010,12:17:34 AM
What began as an exchange of over a 40 emails to plan a leisurely weekend away from the stress of our routine lives, finally culminated in a decision to climb up Raigad... at night. We reached Panvel at 8 pm and the ceremonial start-of-the-trip pictures were taken to commemorate what was to be an exciting trip. Considering that what we had planned was a nice lazy getaway, the air conditioner in the rented Scorpio was probably the hardest ....

Simulator weekendThursday, October 14, 2010,10:15:31 PM
It was in 2002, while I was in Rajasthan, that I last heard a peacock scream. It’s shriek enters, passes right through your heart and mind, and keeps echoing. I’d always wished to see a peacock here in Pune and thanks to a friend, a visit to the Wildernest Resort early in the morning resulted in just that. ....

Cause, we rideFriday, October 08, 2010,12:59:29 AM
We frequently ride to different places and a ride to the south of India was pending for a long time! The plan started taking shape a couple of months ago. It was not just a casual ride but one with an aim of bringing change (or at least inform people) to minimise child labour. We were doing things in our own way on a relatively small scale. Five of us — Amogh Navalkar, Anant Bhatia, Ankit Khandelwal, Ashutosh Adkar and Surojit Sadhu undertook a 3,000-....

Temple trooperThursday, September 30, 2010,10:40:02 PM
We wanted to bid goodbye to the monsoon by completely revelling in it. We had another reason to celebrate too. It was our office’s second anniversary, and we wanted to fete its success! So, a group of us thought of going to an ordinary place through an extraordinary road. We were going to Alibaug via Tamhini Ghats, visiting a not-so-famous Shiv temple “Kankeshwar”, which is ....

On the rocksThursday, September 23, 2010,11:10:18 PM
Sometimes one just has to get away from it all. If that feeling’s a disease, then I’m terminally ill! Motorcycle riding is a passion and when the daily grind gets too much, taking off into the sunset for a little sabbatical works great for me.. I often thought the Ahmednagar highway is not in very good condition and always have avoided that section of road. However, when I actually headed towards Nighoj that day, I realised how wrong I was. The highway ....

GO-YO-GAThursday, August 12, 2010,11:13:52 PM
Though the monsoon and the wonderful weather it brought with it are blessings and you probably did celebrate the welcome change from Summer, that was a while ago. A few months of almost-perfect temperature also means that you’re probably using the drizzle as an excuse to stay home from those daily morning walks, jogs, cycling or swimming sessions. And if you couldn’t afford the ....

Lost in Torna-tionThursday, August 05, 2010,10:11:00 PM
After ages of not doing much, the dormant traveller in me awoke. I joined a few friends and together we decided to rediscover a common hobby we shared once upon a time (before professional life began!), of biking, nature and treks; and finally Mani, Akshay, Gourang and I planned a midnight trek on a comparatively free weekend. Conquering the highest fort of Pune would surely bring a ....

Kolad-ing against the rapidsThursday, July 29, 2010,09:45:54 PM
Navigating through rough waters, an inflatable raft under your control, completely in sync with nature and its beauties — these are only a few thrills experienced by adventurers who take up rafting as a leisure activity. I was lucky enough to go on such a water rafting experience last month for the first time in my life. Although I have been an adventure seeker, nothing has given me as much of a kick as rafting has, not even a trek to the Himalayas! ....

Seaing redThursday, July 15, 2010,10:09:58 PM
Karajgaon, near Dapoli, is a beautiful Konkan coast with a difference. The first thing you notice as soon as you land on this beach is its red sand — it’s the only beach in the Konkan with sand that colour. It took us four hours to get to Karajgaon. We set off at 7 am in our car (it was hard to wake up in the morning !) and took the Tahmini Ghat route. Getting there, we foudn all the hotels were sea-facing. I could just imagine the next couple of days, waking up to ....

BulletshwarThursday, July 08, 2010,09:44:26 PM
When we ride, it seldom matters how far we go, it’s the experience that counts. This is what I realized on this trip to Bhuleshwar. The Firelords have a unique way of deciding on where to ride, this time we rode to Bhuleshwar Temple — a beautiful stone structure of mythological lore atop a hill, about 50 kilometres from Pune, near Yavat on the NH 9. We began at 9 am. Tanking up our steeds and ....

City’s forteThursday, July 01, 2010,09:56:28 PM
Mahabaleshwar, been there. Lonavala, done that. We were looking for a place which was not too far but close enough for a weekend stay. My friends (not from Maharashtra but studying in Pune) and I wanted to see and experience a place, typically Maharashtrian in culture and surrounding. Somebody thought of Kolhapur and then Panhala — one of very few cities that has not lost their old world ....

O Holy RideThursday, June 24, 2010,08:34:45 PM
Every alternate weekend brings with it a sense of anticipation. Road trips are a novelty for us, of which we treasure every moment and revving up our bikes and setting off into the ghats every fortnight has become tradition. This weekend, we had our hearts set on Mandhar devi, near Bhor, and we when we left from home at the crack of dawn we were all pumped up with enthusiasm for the ....

Wheel make a differenceThursday, June 03, 2010,10:57:43 PM
Say ‘biker’ and immediately certain stereotypical images come to mind — leather jackets, shiny helmets and gloves, a swagger in gait, love for speed and above all, attitude. Going strictly by this image, Devjeet Saha, 24, and Vartika Pande, 22, don’t disappoint. Both are passionate bikers, hav an affinity for speed and a penchant for zipping around on their mean machines. But that’s where the similarity ends. For the two youngsters are not anything ....

Bullet and the beachThursday, May 27, 2010,11:33:19 PM
Bahut garmi hai yaar,” “Hmmm I know,” and this is how we decided that we would ride to Dahanu. Be it the heat or the rain or anything else, bikers always have their own way! Dahanu is a surprisingly scenic beach on the west coast of India, famous for chikoos. There are quite a few decent hotels facing the beach, which makes Dahanu a very convenient beach as you never need to walk more than 100 metres to touch the waters of the Arabian ....
